About this opportunity:
Cenovus’s Industrial Hygiene & Occupational Health team is seeking an Occupational Health Specialist.
The Occupational Health Specialist provides leadership and support for the Cenovus Occupational Health Assessment (OHA) program. The OHA program and resources are a critical link to the effective implementation of Cenovus Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health programs.
This role serves to ensure the alignment of occupational health practices and programs and the development of employee understanding of workplace health hazards risks and controls and the occupational health impacts associated with them.

What you’ll do:

  • Support the development, implementation, maintenance, integrity, and continuous improvement of the Cenovus OHA program including the records generated and the data system used to store them
  • Over-site, monitoring and reporting of Cenovus health service providers associated with the OHA Program
  • Assess implementation of OH programs across multiple functional entities and recommend short term and long term improvements to facilitate worker protection
  • Interpret and apply multiple jurisdictional regulations and requirements to the Cenovus OHA Program and ensure continuous improvement
  • Provide consultation and support to functional entity leadership, act as a liaison with Disability Management and Alcohol and Drug program representatives and act as the subject matter expert in OHA related items
  • Support the requirements of the Cenovus Operating Integrity Management System (COIMS)

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse with at least 12 years’ of experience including 5 years of direct oil and gas experience
  • Proficient at establishing, executing, and reviewing strategies and programs related to the prevention of occupational illnesses
  • Strong ability to make decisions in response to emergency or upset conditions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to motivate, develop and mentor other team members
  • Experience with occupational health data systems, industrial hygiene processes and practices and management systems would be beneficial

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.
For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver’s abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
