Job Description:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Manager or designate, and within the context of a multi-disciplinary plan within the school setting for the child and family, provides intervention in relation to occupational performance (self-care, productivity, and leisure) to support educational outcomes. May provide work direction and/or training to Physical Medicine Assistants, Education Assistants, Teachers and other caregivers.
Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from a recognized university program in Occupational Therapy. Current licensure in a practicing category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as an Occupational Therapist. Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT). Minimum one (1) year of experience in pediatric occupational therapy, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid BC Driver’s License.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated clinical competency in the field of occupational therapy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with families, young people, and other professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and monitor assistants, family members, and other caregivers in carrying out services to the child.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize time and responsibilities and to work independently.
  • Demonstrated/referenced interpersonal and team skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of occupational therapy in family-centered approach to care.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
