Description:

SKILLS YOU BRING

  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy, or related field
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Proven skills in functional assessments, occupational analysis, skill development, and vocational rehabilitation.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ full-time experience in direct service delivery to adults with serious and complex mental health issues, including those with concurrent disorders. Experience working in the community is an asset.
  • Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation, recovery principles, therapeutic treatment modalities, supportive housing, forensic mental health, the criminal justice system and concurrent disorders is strongly preferred.
  • Strong assessment, service planning and crisis prevention/intervention skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate an anti-oppression approach to practice is required.
  • The candidate will also be required to have a valid Ontario Driver’s License, access to a vehicle and insurance coverage.

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE AND OPPORTUNITY

The Canadian Mental Health Association is looking for an Occupational Therapist to join our Forensic Supportive Housing (FSH) Program. The Forensic Supportive Housing Program delivers intensive case management and housing support services to individuals living with mental illness who are involved with the forensic criminal justice system. Reporting to the Manager of Forensic Services, and in collaboration with the FSH Clinical Lead, the Occupational Therapist will provide direct service to clients and consultation to an interdisciplinary team designed to deliver enhanced service intensity and specialized supports to individuals living independently in the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assessment, intake and collaborative service care planning; identifying rehabilitation goals and risk management strategies; supporting clients to understand and adhere to the conditions of their ORB Dispositions.
  • Orientation to program, agency and community; linkage to community resources.
  • Provision of on-site and community-based services and interventions, including support with ADLs, maintaining meaningful/structured day time activities, group facilitation, one to one support, social recreational programming, psycho-education, structured relapse prevention etc.
  • Liaise between related CMHA Programs and CAMH as well as community service providers.
  • Maintain trusting, respectful and collaborative working relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Risk assessment and management, crisis prevention and intervention, monitoring, evaluation and follow-up.
