THE POSITION:

Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is seeking an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to join our Clinical Seating Services team. Holland Bloorview’s clinical seating service provides assessment and education to children who use specialized seating, positioning or mobility equipment. Therapists complete a comprehensive assessment and work with both inpatient and outpatient clients and their families to find the best solution for their needs. This role is primarily on-site at Holland Bloorview (150 Kilgour Road, Toronto). This is a regular part-time role (0.5 FTE).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy required; master’s degree preferred
  • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario or the College of Physiotherapy Ontario required
  • Current ADP Registered Authorizer Number (mobility) required
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists and/or the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists or Canadian Physiotherapy Association or Ontario Physiotherapy Association an asset
  • Experience working in the healthcare field, preferably with children/youth who have a disability
  • Demonstrated knowledge in seating, mobility and positioning devices and funding resources is required
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and in a solution focused manner with clients, families and members of the interprofessional care team
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with those involved with client/family
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and student education
  • Experience with being a positive change agent and quality improvement initiatives is an asset
  • Written and verbal English language communication skills required to effectively communicate with clients, families and members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Proven ability to measure service effectiveness and efficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to organize time and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-direction
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently manage fluctuating clinical responsibilities
  • Proven ability to work with clients and families
  • Proven ability to be an effective member of an inter-professional team
  • Status appointment in the Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy or Department of Physiotherapy at University of Toronto is an asset

Responsibilities:

  • Follows occupational therapist’s/physiotherapist’s practice standards, policies, and procedures established by the respective Colleges and Holland Bloorview.
  • Assesses for assistive technology to meet the seating, wheeled mobility and positioning needs of clients in collaboration with clients/families, therapists, and vendors.
  • Utilizes the teaching/learning process to provide education, both formal and informal, to clients/families, colleagues, students and other professionals within the organization and community with regards to seating and mobility.
  • Provides direct service, consultation, and education to client, family and community providers with the focus domains of practice relevant to occupational therapy/physiotherapy.
  • Partners with clients and families to formulate and implement individualized client-centered goals with focused, targeted and measurable outcomes.
  • Provides client care in collaboration with the client/family to plan, implement and evaluate care, documenting according to hospital policies.
  • Interfaces and problem solves with members of the interprofessional care team and community providers as appropriate to ensure an integrated approach to care.
  • Demonstrates strong critical thinking/reasoning and utilizes research to establish and support evidence-informed practice.
  • Incorporates evaluative activities into professional practice to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective health care.
  • Promotes and support the physical, psychosocial and spiritual wellbeing of patients and families.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives such as quality boards, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices.
  • Documents workload statistics according to the Ministry of Health.
  • Other duties as assigned.
