Description:
Who we are
Galapagos Conservation Trust (GCT) is the only UK registered charity to focus exclusively on
supporting the conservation and sustainability of the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. Our
programmes respond to major threats to the Islands and the surrounding marine reserve including
pollution, invasive species, overfishing and climate change. We take a ‘science to solutions’
approach, ensuring our programmes are based on robust science and result in solutions being
implemented. We work in collaboration with an ecosystem of partners, taking a ‘grassroots to
Government’ approach to ensure conservation solutions are co-designed, accepted, and effective.
Why you’re here
From supporting high quality science to inform protection of critically endangered species, to
working at an international level to tackle ocean plastic pollution, GCT’s programme portfolio
of projects is diverse and growing. Our Oceans Programme consists of a suite of grants to
partners as well as GCT’s direct implementation, with a strong focus on tackling the threats
from sea-borne plastic pollution and from floating fish aggregating devices (FADs) and ghost
gear from fishing operations that end up in the Island’s marine reserve. Thanks to new funding,
we are building and expanding this work, including through policy advocacy and engagement with
artisanal and industrial fleets, in the search for effective solutions.
Reporting to the Head of Programmes, the Ocean Project Manager will lead our projects on
drifting fish aggregating devices (FADs) and at-sea and vessel-linked waste management, and
contribute to other aspects of our Oceans Programme. You will coordinate all aspects of the
development, management and delivery of the project work, ensuring timely delivery and budget
management, and monitoring and evaluation. You will maintain an engaged partnership network
with regular communications to our partners and stakeholders, developing and delivering policy
positions and the communication of the results being achieved. You will represent GCT in
relevant networks and forums. You will also support the design and development of new proposals
as we continue to grow our portfolio.
What you’ll deliver
A suite of high-performing actions that fit with GCT’s strategic objectives and our Oceans
strategy, through strong partnerships and key stakeholder engagement and supported by clear
monitoring and evaluation.
Project coordination and management, applying relevant planning, budgeting, tracking and
outreach tools and approaches for clear roles and responsibilities and effective delivery.
A dynamic and effective connection and communication flow with Programmes team (UK/Ecuador)
and other GCT departments, and with consultants and others directly supporting delivery of the
work.
An engaged partner and policy network for the work, cultivating existing partnerships and
developing new ones.
An informed and confident voice on the Ocean issues of GCT’s focus, helping GCT to
influence government and sectorial policies and practices.
Implementing a strong monitoring and evaluation process to capture progress and learnings
to inform donor and grant reporting
Support for developing project reports (written and financial), proposals and other major
gift fundraising.
Strategic input to the Head of Programmes for ongoing Oceans Programme development and
delivery.
How we’ll measure it
Delivery of Oceans Programme goals and outcomes, against the defined key performance and
SMART indicators and timeframes.
Strength of partnerships and collaborative efforts towards our Ocean goals and outcomes.
Improved ability to attract funding for future Ocean activities.
Growing awareness and reputation of GCT for tackling Ocean threats from plastics, drifting
FADs, ghost gear and other topics key to GCT’s strategy.
What you’re responsible for

example, drifting FADs, on-board waste management) and close coordination with Programmes team
in support of Oceans portfolio delivery.
Managing grants/contracts disbursed to partners/contractors according to partnership aims
and agreed deliverables.

& Grants Committee (part of GCT’s Board of Trustees)
