The Mission of Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) is to improve public safety by positively changing lives.
Our agency is looking to fill a full-time, permanent Office Assistant (OA3) vacancy within the Community Corrections Division. This position works for the Special Assault Unit (SAU) located at 1717 West Broadway, Spokane, WA 99202.
The Spokane SAU supervises a caseload of registered individuals who have been convicted of a sex offense by the Superior Court. During supervision, they will be under one or more jurisdictions to include the Indeterminate Sentence Review Board (Parole), the Court, and DOC. This position requires interfacing with stakeholders as well as therapists and polygraph examiners. In addition to supervision, you may be required to conduct pre-sentence investigations and make recommendations to the Court for an appropriate sentence within the sentencing guidelines. Exposure to sensitive material is common.
Under general supervision by the Secretary Supervisor, this position provides technical and clerical support to the Secretary Supervisor, Community Corrections Supervisor (CCS), and Community Corrections Officers (CCOs) for the SAU and Special Needs Unit (SNU).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Six months of clerical experience with basic knowledge of Microsoft programs to include Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • And must maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Must respect and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to assist individuals with various criminal backgrounds.
  • Ability to navigate internal databases and a variety of computer platforms and applications.
  • Ability to proofread written material, identify and correct errors, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Ability to effectively and clearly communicate with staff, supervised individuals, stakeholders, and the public.

Desired Qualifications

  • Two years clerical experience to include basic level proficiency and knowledge in Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, SharePoint, and Excel.
  • Customer service and/or front counter experience.
  • Operating a multi-line phone system.
