UPMC’s Benedum Geriatrics Center is seeking an enthusiastic and organized Office Assistant II to join our team! This pivotal role is crucial in ensuring our patients receive exceptional care and service, making a difference in their healthcare journey.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Patient Scheduling & Coordination: Efficiently schedule and manage patient appointments, ensuring timely and accurate bookings.
  • Client Interaction: Provide exceptional service both in person and over the phone, addressing inquiries and assisting clients with their needs.
  • Information Management: Communicate effectively with various departments and clinical staff, ensuring smooth operations and timely responses to requests.
  • Data Entry: Obtain and accurately enter complete demographic and insurance information into our systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Verify necessary information and records in the medical record and computerized scheduling system.
  • Prepare patient charts for upcoming appointments.
  • Use computer system to generate information necessary for billing.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly waiting area including beverage area and reading materials.
  • Greet and register patients in a polite, prompt, helpful manner.
  • Inform appropriate department/person of person’s arrival performing appropriate check-in and check-out functions.
  • Assist with inpatient billing process.
  • Process medical records release requests.
  • Maintain and update current information on physician’s schedules ensuring that patients are scheduled properly, and appointments are confirmed.
  • Answer telephone, screen calls, take messages, and provide information in a courteous manner.
  • Schedule diagnostic testing and obtain insurance authorizations, verifications, and referrals in a timely fashion.
  • Utilize appropriate modules of the automated financial management system for scheduling, information verification, entering charges, co-payment collection/ reconciliation and other tasks.
  • Schedule, coordinate and reschedule patient appointments.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three years of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
