JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the OURS/UROP Director, utilizing specialized knowledge and skills relating to undergraduate research, community engagement and data management, is responsible for leading, development and coordinating community engagement projects, data management, partnership development with other undergraduate research programs at CSULB, and meeting OURS/UROP identified goals and priorities. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining mutually-beneficial community partnerships, serving as a resource to faculty sponsors working with OURS and UROP research assistants, serving as a resource to students participating in OURS/UROP, maintaining complete, accurate, up-to-date information for various undergraduate research programs, facilitating the successful implementation of undergraduate research activities for each academic term, and assessing and responding to issues and problems arising in day-to-day program operations.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrate knowledge of principles, practices, and trends in serving prospective and/or current diverse college students, including those from low income and first-generation backgrounds. Knowledge of undergraduate issues and academic complexity are strongly preferred. Prior work experience with undergraduate research programs. Working knowledge of best practices of undergraduate research and campus partnership development with other undergraduate research programs. Working knowledge of issues relating to undergraduate research as well as issues relating to higher education. Working knowledge of computer programs and basic information. Working knowledge of database programs, E-Mail, Calendaring, and Internet.
Program planning, management, and organizational skills. Ability to successfully manage and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to work in a culturally diverse population. Expertise in data management. Ability to research, analyze, and interpret data and make recommendations. Excellent writing and proofreading skills. Public Relations as related to planning and preparing for events, workshops, newsletters, and advertising for the OURS/UROP office and campus awareness of program/office activities. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to communicate effectively with faculty and provide support. Group facilitation skills. Strong communication skills (written, oral, and interpersonal.) Ability to work with people with diverse backgrounds (e.g., gender, race/ethnicity, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, and disability).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Equivalent to five years of related administrative support experience required.
Preferred:
- Equivalent of two years professional experience directly related to this position.
- CSULB work experience preferred
- Undergraduate Research Program experience preferred
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field may be substituted for 2 years of professional experience.
PHYSICAL SUMMARY
- Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).
Responsibilities:
- 1) Develop and maintain guides, presentations, resources and other tools for faculty, students, and community partners to track, maintain, and implement undergraduate research activities 2) Give presentations, offer trainings, tutorials, and workshops on undergraduate research opportunities; 3) Support both Federal Work Study and Non- Federal Work Study research assistants with undergraduate research and presentations; 4) Processing of student employment paperwork for 130 research assistants, faculty sponsors paperwork, student and faculty professional development funds; 5) Process all payments and travel support, purchase of office supplies, event scheduling and day -to-day office needs; 6) Track expenditures of OURS/UROP operations accounts.
- Data Management, Reporting, and Evaluation: Develop, maintain, and utilize various on-line tools that support undergraduate research and capture data necessary for compliance, reporting and evaluation processes; collect, analyze, and utilize data in developing reports and to support strategic planning and evaluation processes. Develop and maintain tools, resources, training guides and manuals for faculty sponsors and research assistants. Lead and develop workshops, presentations, sessions on data management, tracking, and reporting. Maintain Faculty Mentor Directory database.
- Communication: Maintain strong relationships with on campus support and assist in the promotion of undergraduate research opportunities.
- Oversee Major Events: Co-Manage major research events (e.g. UROP Research Symposium, Statewide Student Research Competition, and Week of Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity etc.). Recruit faculty and students for participation in major research events; 2. Oversee the logistics of CSULB students to the National Council on Undergraduate Research Conference (NCUR) including student application, oversee student travel arrangements and reimbursements, oversee ASI and SLD travel application submissions and University reimbursement; 3. Attend NCUR with CSULB NCUR participants. Oversee student travel arrangements and reimbursements. Oversee ASI and SLD travel application submissions and University reimbursement.
