Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and knowledgeable Oil and Gas Attorney to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in oil and gas law and a passion for working on sophisticated legal matters in the energy industry. A small book of business is a plus! As an Oil and Gas Attorney at Eques Law Group, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of matters, including exploration and production, leasing and land use, regulatory compliance, transactional due diligence, and mineral rights disputes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Ohio and in good standing. Admission to Pennsylvania and/or West Virginia bar are a plus.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience practicing law with a focus on oil and gas law, preferably at a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Strong understanding of oil and gas regulatory frameworks and legal principles governing the industry.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to clients and colleagues.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality legal services and exceptional client service.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and support to clients on a variety of oil and gas-related matters, including exploration and production agreements, oil and gas leases, surface use agreements, and royalty agreements.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements and contracts related to oil and gas exploration, production, and transportation, including joint operating agreements, farmout agreements, drilling contracts, and pipeline easements.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on complex legal issues impacting the oil and gas industry, including state and federal regulations, case law, and industry best practices.
  • Assist clients in navigating regulatory proceedings before federal and state agencies, including the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and state oil and gas commissions.
  • Advise clients on oil and gas transactional matters, including due diligence, title examination, risk assessment, and contract negotiation.
  • Represent clients in litigation and alternative dispute resolution proceedings arising out of oil and gas-related matters, including contract disputes, lease disputes, and environmental litigation.
  • Stay abreast of developments in oil and gas law and industry trends, and provide thought leadership and strategic guidance to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Review publicly recorded and unrecorded documents in order to identify the chain of title of various real property interests.
  • Conduct legal research on real property and oil and gas law.
  • Identify potential title defects and curative actions for said title defects.
  • Analyze oil and gas leases, assignments, and related agreements.
  • Utilize public records and other provided resources to obtain well data, deeds, heirship proceedings, and other information.
  • Draft mineral title opinions.
  • Provide legal counsel and support to clients on real estate transactions and projects related to the energy sector, including the acquisition, disposition, leasing, and development of energy facilities, such as oil and gas assets, renewable energy projects, and transmission infrastructure.
  • Negotiating and drafting oil and gas joint venture agreements, lease agreements, water rights agreements, deeds, assignments, service rights agreements, joint operating agreements, master service agreements, division orders, easements and/or real estate agreements.
  • Performing acquisition due diligence, and experience with purchase and sale of mineral assets and surface rights.
