Description:
We have an exciting opportunity in our busy Operating Theatre Department at York Teaching Hospital, for enthusiastic and well-motivated individuals to join our team of dedicated healthcare professionals, as an Operating Department Orderly.
This is a role which will enhance our team and improve the service we can offer to our patients.
The successful candidates will be required to participate in the safe transfer of both patients and equipment, to and from theatres, and will be involved with the routine cleaning and maintenance of specialist theatre equipment to maintain the high standards required for this busy, patient focused environment. This may require some technical skills in order to operate some machinery and equipment.
We are looking for individuals who are reliable, professional and hard working, and have a caring manner with excellent communication and observational skills. Applicants will ideally have previous experience of working with patients in a hospital environment, however this is not essential as full training will be provided.
The vacancy is for full time or part time hours.

Communication with a variety of hospital staff of all grades within and outside of the theatre environment on a regular basis.
Providing and receiving routine information which requires listening skills, tact and appropriate confidentiality.
Regular communication with visitors and patients.
Effective communicator with knowledge of departmental policies.
To maintain permanent contact with theatres through the use of a mobile telephone system/ radio/ pager..
IT skills to communicate and maintain statutory and mandatory training requirements.
Communication regarding repairs to relevant equipment including theatre operating trolley.
The job holder should respect patient confidentiality at all times and not divulge patient information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role.
