The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine is one of the largest and most successful centres for research and education in the UK. The Faculty brings together translational and clinical scientists to provide new cross-divisional research collaborations while optimising the deployment of teaching expertise across the Faculty.
The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine has always had a clear mission – to deliver world-class education and research. In order to support continued excellence and innovation in these areas, the Centre for Education was formed to provide educational leadership across the Faculty.
The Centre for Education is led by Co-Directors Prof Helen Collins & Prof Nicki Cohen and is managed by Dr Tania Alcantarilla. The focus is on enhancing the Faculty’s undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research programmes by developing:
pedagogy and best practice,
initiatives in research, training and curriculum development, and
collaborative working within the seven Academic Schools, the two Schools of Education and the Teaching Departments, and the relevant leads in these areas.
About the role
The post holder is a member of the Centre’s professional services team, providing high quality general administrative support to the Centre for Education and to allocated Faculty’s education leads.
To provide smooth and efficient day-to-day operational support to staff and students in the Centre and Faculty teaching department working closely with the Centre’s Manager to provide local support for staff delivering the Faculty’s education programmes and, when required, students
To maintain shared resources, including stationery and other supplies
To use and support the university’s electronic record systems, ensuring data are accurate and consistent across all data sources, responding to information requests from staff and central functions, being mindful of data protection
To prepare communications, draft presentations, briefing documents and background materials as required
To take responsibility for planning and organising events/ functions and projects, including planning and organising visits by external/international delegates
To undertake research and data analysis when required to inform decisions and work priorities
To prepare and support meetings, boards, and committees, including the coordination and distribution of papers, organising events and taking notes or minutes, as required
To foster a stimulating, innovative and inclusive cultural environment across the Centre enabling staff to thrive and develop, ensuring that processes and policies are visible, accessible and transparent.
This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

Desirable criteria

  • Educated to degree level or relevant experience
  • Proven Professional Services skills gained within the Higher Education sector and a detailed knowledge the regulatory, policy and procedural context along with the challenges and opportunities faced by the sector
  • Committee servicing
