JOB SUMMARY:
This is a broad all round Operational role taking ownership of the day to day running of the operational team and projects. The role will report into the Operations Director.
Salary based on experience. Scaffolding Experience Required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Proven experience of working in the Construction section, preferably the scaffolding sector.
- The ability to communicate, influence and challenge at all levels to deliver results.
- Leadership experience, including experience of managing and developing teams.
- Suitable construction industry or professional qualification.
- Experience of working with a main contractor or large subcontractor.
- Experience of operational processes within large scale projects.
- Have strong interpersonal skills; able to communicate at all levels and across the business.
- Be pro-active and with a can-do attitude and able to handle tasks and drive results without close supervision.
- A team player who actively supports others around them but also with the ability to work independently.
- An advocate for excellence in all aspects of health & safety construction practices and ‘leading from the front’ (always wearing full PPE kits on site).
- Ability to constantly seek new and improved ways to enhance business practices/processes.

Responsibilities:
- Responsibility for day to day management of the business operations, Site management, logistics and Yard Management
o Assisting clients senior management teams in the overall planning and supervision of projects.
o Reviewing project plans with clients and ensuring the company’s programme of work fits to the project plan and variations thereto.
o Having the ultimate decision making authority for site issues relating to labour, materials, management and disputes.
o With Contract managers, managing the organisation and movement of operatives from site to site as required by clients.
o Having overall control of company materials at client sites, ensuring surplus materials are held safely or returned to the yard.
o With the office team, Transport Manager and Contract Managers manage the logistics of lorries, drivers, gangs of scaffolders each day/week.
o Attending Site meetings with major contractors and other sub contractors and appropriately representing the company while collaboratively working with other contractors to ensure that the clients project is completed as required.
o Carrying out random and/or planned on site drug and alcohol tests if you or Contracts Managers believe any of the company operatives are under the influence of drugs/alcohol while on site.
o Ensuring all scaffolding works are carried out under Health & Safety guidelines and liaising with the scaffolding inspectors as necessary.
o Ensuring site accidents are fully reported to the company and client, with all documentation appropriately completed.
o Ensuring all on site method statements and risk assessments are adhered to.
o Managing the company’s yard operations, establishing systems and processes to ensure that the yard is effectively managed in support of drivers and scaffolders and all equipment is properly maintained.
o Work with the Commercial Manager and Finance Manger to ensure the company maximises the use of information generated related to fleet management.
- Business Development/Relationship Management/Management Meetings
o Identifying business development/new tender opportunities with the MD
o Nurturing the company’s relationships with existing and potential clients at all levels of their companies.
o Identifying new business opportunities.
- Operatives Recruitment and Training
o Ensuring toolbox talks are regularly carried out and are relevant to the company/operatives and ensuring that all training is properly recorded.
o In conjunction with the office staff, managing the company’s training matrix ensuring all training is up to date.
o Identifying training and development opportunities for key operative staff in support of the advancement of their careers.
o Managing the recruitment of scaffolders according to the company’s policies.
o Making recommendations regarding operatives wage increases each year.
- Financial and Business Management
o Ensuring projects are completed on a timely basis and within budget.
o Assisting the Commercial Manager with monthly applications for payments, month end reconciliations, costings/margin reports and project reconciliations.
o Liaising with and maintaining a good working relationship with clients, surveyors, sub contractors, project managers as necessary to price variations/adaptations and discussing monthly applications for payment and end of project accounts.
o Supporting the Contract Managers with preparing wages schedules/timesheets each week for operatives.
o Participating in the company’s internal management meetings.
