Are you an Operations Manager looking for a new challenge? Do you have a background in manufacturing and production?
We are looking for an Operations Manager to join our growing CMS2 team in Portsmouth. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking team. The role holder will be responsible for the leadership and management of the production team including production test & inspection
The role holder will be responsible for the leadership and management of the operations team including manufacturing, production test & inspection. They will work closely with the industrialisation manager and together with will ensure all aspects of the enablement of projects / products for the production team to manage effective and efficient flow through production.
The Operations manager will manage the workload of the various teams, defining and delivering the key metrics required including OTIF, utilisation and quality and in doing so ensure the rest of the business is aligned, informed and engaged in the delivery process.
The role will create & manage the schedule for production ensuring it aligns to the needs of the project teams in terms of Quality, Cost and Delivery, they will also ensure that all manufacturing processes are fulfilling the needs of the business and continually improve them.
The Operations manager will be responsible for the health of safety of the production facility, ensuring all team members are working in a safe and effective manner.
As well as production the role holder will act as a focal and ‘owner’ of local facilities, ensuring the supporting centralised providers are aware and supporting local needs
The Operations Manager will own, lead and drive 5s & Lean activities for the production team setting the facility as an exemplar in this respect and ensuring themselves and the team are aware and driving towards the next generations of manufacturing techniques as appropriate.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK
  • Candidates must have passed UK security clearance to Security Check level or be able to obtain this level. This normally requires 5 years residence in the UK.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  • Responsible for the overall production plan to ensure the individual projects and associated work packages meet Company and customer schedules.
  • Managing the flow of work through production, managing the workload of the team and best utilisation of individual & team skills
  • Maintain & continually improve the quality standards in manufacturing assembly and test as set by our own standards and those set by customers where they differ.
  • Ensure efficient manufacturing and assembly of equipment making best use of our teams and facilities through high utilisation rates
  • Liaise with all other managers, project teams and engineering staff to achieve programme requirements.
  • Ensure Company equipment and tooling is operated and maintained to a high standard including production facilities related items working with group facility managers as needed
  • Drive a culture of high standard Lean Manufacturing and workplace organisation (5S)
  • Act as an active focal and driver of manufacturing health and safety
  • Prepare and submit budgets, forecasts and reports, monitor, control and report on expenditure against budget
  • Authorise departmental expenditure in accordance with the authorised signatory list
  • Justify the return on any investment delivering an easily measurable ROI on each project or capital investment.
  • Stay abreast of modern manufacturing techniques and trends and implement as appropriate within our facility
  • In liaison with the industrialisation manager continually ensure processes and techniques are best practice and meeting the needs of the business
  • Deputise for the Operations Director on Manufacturing related matters when required.

ROLE TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • The duties of this appointment relate to the UK, but you may be required to travel when required by the Company. It is not envisaged that you shall be required to work outside the UK for more than one month.
