Description:
The Operations Manager is a critical member of the local Ferguson Moving & Storage management team. They are responsible for driving operational efficiencies of their team and high-level human resource functions such as training standards and hiring procedures. Additionally, they assess and optimise organisational processes and seek to increase the quality, productivity, and efficiency of Ferguson Moving & Storage.
This position works closely with other employees to fulfil the organisation’s mandate. Our organisational culture values compassion, curiosity, innovation, teamwork, work-life balance, collaboration, and friendship.
This role will be supported by our Head Office team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Success
- Dispatch movers, packers, vehicles and moving equipment/materials
- Manage and monitor inventory supply levels
- Review upcoming jobs and work on maximising the use of manpower and equipment, finding ways to increase our capacity for peak times.
- Train, onboard, and mentor movers to develop high performing move teams
- Follow the claims process to ensure claims are resolved ASAP and fix the problem internally with staff.
- Collaborate with other departments as needed when dealing with complex issues and report potential problems or concerns to the Manager.
- Look for ways to improve processes and workflows.
- Ensure that all trucks are up to date with their MVIs and that the insurance documentation is in order and that copies are kept with the vehicles.
- Monitor and Manage wear and tear on vehicles and equipment
- Warehouse maintenance and cleanliness. Fire, doors, docks, lights, heaters, kitchen, bathrooms
Human Resource Management
- Provide feedback and performance management/discipline for the warehouse and moving team, up to and including Step 2 (written reprimand).
- Forward requests for suspensions or terminations to the Manager for approval.
- Provide general feedback on employee performance for probationary and annual reviews.
- Perform driver’s meetings each month following the agenda.
- Provides monthly performance feedback to the movers measuring margin, reviews, and claims.
Communication
- Communicate directly with customers before, during and after their moves
- Communicate with moving teams throughout the day
- Report any Forklift, trucks and support vehicle maintenance issues, and receive authorization for repair
- Liaise with the Head Office team. Not limited to Finance, Marketing, Operations, Sales, Etc.
Sales Support
- Support the sales team locally by performing on-site surveys
- Engage in Marketing or Business development activities when required
- Onsite Quotes as scheduled by internal sales team
Costing/Margins
- Ensure employees are submitting hours and logging appropriate information
- Maintain and update the use of materials on a per-job basis
- Train teams to improve their margins

Working Conditions
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
- Long hours, when required.
