Responsibilities:
Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) is responsible for hosting the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Support Service (NVSS), comprising three operational arms which provide high quality Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) services to eligible patients across NSW. These include:
- Access Service (VAD-AS): a small pool of Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) who are authorised VAD practitioners, established to fill gaps in availability of local VAD practitioners, primarily in rural and regional areas of NSW.
- Care Navigator Service (VAD-CNS): a specialized call-centre manned by senior nurses and allied health professionals who provide information and support to patients, families, clinicians, and other community members about VAD.
- Pharmacy Service (VAD-PS): responsible for procuring and distributing the VAD substance, and providing expert pharmaceutical advise, education and support.
The Operations Manager will collaborate and coordinate across these three operational arms to ensure seamless service delivery. This includes monitoring of interactions between each service arm (referrals, shared travel requirements) to ensure consistency in operations. The significant travel requirements for NVSS staff will also be overseen by the Operations Manager, who is responsible for the administration officers within the service responsible for booking travel.
The Operations Manager also supports the NSLHD Local Support Team (VAD-LST) – fourth operational arm. This includes ensuring that management of patients within NSLHD for VAD-related requests is compliant with the NSLHD VAD Procedure, requiring a close working relationship with VAD-LST staff and VAD executive leads and other key personnel in each NSLHD facility and/or service.
