Varsteel Ltd., a prominent full-line steel distribution service center in Western Canada, is seeking an Operations Shift Supervisor to join our dynamic team at our Delta branch. If you have strong leadership skills, a customer-service mindset, and experience in the steel industry or a related manufacturing sector, we’d love to hear from you!

POSITION OVERVIEW:

As the Operations Shift Supervisor, you will play a key role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the warehouse and yard. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will guide a small team of employees on a single shift, ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and productivity.
You will be responsible for coordinating and maintaining smooth operations, managing staff, and ensuring quality standards are met. This is a hands-on supervisory role that demands strong leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to safety.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role in the steel industry or related manufacturing sectors.
  • Mechanical aptitude and practical experience with tools and equipment.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all team members.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Solid mathematical skills for material handling and scheduling.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices in an industrial setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the loading, securing, and tarping of steel goods for transport.
  • Ensure proper unloading and storage of materials in their designated areas.
  • Verify that materials are correctly counted, tagged, and painted.
  • Oversee the safe operation of cranes and rigging equipment.
  • Ensure staff adhere to PPE and safety protocols.
  • Manage staffing levels to meet operational demand.
  • Schedule work orders and allocate resources effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Communicate with the sales team regarding work order updates or any deviations.
  • Maintain a constant flow of work for all team members to ensure efficiency.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and documentation as required.
  • Address employee conflicts or performance issues, escalating to management as needed.
  • Ensure all employees receive proper training, including operation, safety requirements, and equipment maintenance.
  • Conduct daily machine inspections to ensure equipment is in good working condition.
  • Ensure work areas are clean, safe, and free from hazards.
  • Comply with and promote company health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Uphold quality assurance standards and maintain a professional, courteous manner at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
