Description:
SUMMARY:
The Operations Technician will work collaboratively with the Operations Technologist and Unit Supervisors to provide a wide range of administrative and technical support including: crafting and updating work procedures (i.e. technical writing); preparing related technical calculations and drawings; completing infrastructure inspections and field measurements for legal claims, condition assessments and inventory updates.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Successful completion of a recognized 2 year College Civil Engineering Technician Program (or a closely related technical discipline).Above average communication skills and demonstrated technical writing skills.
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience in the civil/municipal sector.
- OACETT designation (or eligibility for) as a “C Tech”.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS software (GIS Map Viewer) and MS Office.
- Working knowledge of AMANDA is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of backflow prevention and Cross Connection Control Specialist Certification is an asset.
- Formal training/coursework in basic road design and construction.
- Formal training/coursework in basic storm drainage concepts and systems.
- Formal training/coursework in sanitary sewer design and construction.
- Formal training/coursework in water distribution design and construction.
- A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.
- Proven completion of Ministry of Labour Worker Health and Safety Awareness training.
- A valid Ontario driver’s licence, Class “G”, with a clean driving record.
CUPE 157 Pay Group 7 – Minimum $60,930 annually; Maximum $67,686 annually
Expected Work Location: Lake St Service Centre
Hours of Work: Currently Monday – Friday; 8:30am - 4:30pm
Responsibilities:
- Review work practices and develop/prepare written standard work/operating procedures taking into account city practices, equipment capabilities, manufacturer specifications and health and safety requirements.
- Attend various work locations to record site conditions including taking measurements related to insurance claims, repairs, equipment installations, including using conventional horizontal (i.e. tapes) and vertical (surveying level) equipment.
- Prepare technical drawings, maps, material summaries/quantities, asset catalogues, and other related technical information to accompany and/or compliment work procedures, policies and operations contract documents and programs.
- Assist with installation and/or calibration of monitoring and/or measuring equipment such as pipe flow monitors, retroreflexometer, precipitation/snow monitoring, etc.
- Administer utility service installation permits including working with owners, contractors, other departments and managing security holdbacks.
- Review existing records, maps and drawings and update databases (included related GIS system inputs) to reflect accurate and current asset information.
