POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Ophthalmology Department is recruiting a full-time Ophthalmic Assistant (OA)! Within the clinic, the OA is a fundamental role, responsible for the facilitation of team-specific ophthalmic care. The OA performs oculovisual testing which may include, but is not limited to, visual fields and visual electrophysiology assessments for patient care activities and can participate in our medical imaging cross training program. The OA may function as the Patient Contact Person for ophthalmic related inquiries and support patient flow through the clinic.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess individual patient/family needs regarding testing procedures
  • Administer appropriate ophthalmic testing. e.g. visual acuity assessment, colour vision assessment, history taking, pupillary reaction, pre-dilation assessment of extraocular muscles, measurement of intraocular pressure, visual field testing and instillation of dilating drops/ointments as directed
  • Record ophthalmic findings on patient charts
  • Collect and document testing data
