Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Moorfields’ Ophthalmic Vision Science (OVS) Practitioner team within the Medical Imaging and Ultrasound Department. The post holder will work at City Road and other sites as required providing the diagnostic imaging for services across Moorfields.
1. To provide diagnostic imaging services across Moorfields’ including the Trust’s satellite clinics, private patients and other sites as necessary.
2. To undertake a range of digital angiography and imaging procedures requiring expertise underpinned by theoretical knowledge of the principles underlying fundus photography, digital angiography, autofluorescence imaging and optical coherence tomography.
3. To make judgements involving a range of facts which require analysis and comparison to optimise images obtained during Retinal Photography, OCT and Auto fluorescence (e.g. strategies to overcome small pupils, eye movement, cataract, blinking or a combination of these during Imaging) across all ages and with a wide variety of eye conditions

Main Responsibilities
To provide diagnostic imaging for services across Moorfields’ including the Trust’s satellite clinics, private patients and other sites as required.
To undertake a range of digital angiography and imaging procedures requiring expertise underpinned by theoretical knowledge of the principles underlying fundus photography, digital angiography, autofluorescence imaging and optical coherence tomography.
To make judgements involving a range of facts which require analysis and comparison to optimise images obtained during Retinal Photography, OCT and Auto fluorescence (e.g. strategies to overcome small pupils, eye movement, cataract, blinking or a combination of these during Imaging).
Well-developed physical skills to fulfil duties to capture high quality images during angiography.
Perform retinal imaging and image analysis using current standard techniques.
Perform imaging of the external eye and ocular adnexal.
Perform slit lamp imaging of anterior segment of the eye using tropical strains as appropriate.
Ensure medical imaging equipment is in good working condition and ready for use.
Responsible for the safe use of expensive and highly technical imaging equipment.
To carry out simple calibration and maintenance of equipment.
Participate in regular equipment testing and record and monitor the frequency of the tests being carried out. In case of equipment malfunction / breakdown should be reported to EBME.
Ensure good communication with patients regarding their Imaging investigations.
Follow established departmental Standard Operating Procedures, protocols, policies and will be guided good practice when performing Imaging tasks.
Working with the Head of department support the development of SOPs and challenge current practice as technology and techniques develop.
Participate in departmental teaching and mandatory training sessions including instillation of drops.
Provide training and supervision for junior staff.
Make departmental representation when requested by senior managers.
Continuously review and assess your work so that you maintain and improve the quality of the imaging performed.
Plan and prioritise your own workload; ensuring targets are met in a timely manner.
Identify the knowledge, skills and experience needed for successful professional and personal development.
Provide computer graphic services and operate several information systems relating to imaging.
Assist medical staff in downloading clinical images and assist with the reception desk.
Help with printing clinical images when necessary
