FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH - OPEN COMPETITIVE OPPORTUNITY

The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is seeking a creative, organized, flexible, and motivated individual to become an essential member of our Public Health Reporting team as an OPS Research and Statistics Consultant. This OPS position is in the Data Management and Analysis Unit within the Bureau of Community Health Assessment.

The successful incumbent will be responsible for the following:

  • Compile and analyze research and statistical data and prepare written analytical reports, including the Florida vital statistics and other demographic studies, for the purpose of aiding in monitoring trends in public health.
  • Investigate how to enhance data displays on FLHealthCHARTS.gov by including multiple ways to view the data, including visualizations, infographics, data tables, and text to make vital statistics data more user-friendly and comprehensible for the users.
  • Assist in planning activities for research and statistical analysis.
  • Coordinate the compilation of statistics and prepare management reports covering such factors as population characteristics, population movement, and recidivism.
  • Revise the data dictionaries to produce an updated and more user-friendly document.
  • Provide additional support for creating additional race/ethnicity breakouts for the vital statistics data and other data products.
  • Review the county profiles on CHARTS for options to expand and improve them, providing easy-to-understand data on health disparities and vital statistics for health officials and the public.
  • Assist in maintaining FLHealthCHARTS.gov and complete vital statistics data checking to ensure the most up-to-date data is displayed. Investigate patterns found in the vital statistics data.
  • Participate in meetings and work with FLHealthCHARTS Unit staff, Vital Statistics staff, and subject matter experts including county health department staff, to review, update, and prepare new vital statistics measures.
  • Perform related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a college or university with a major course of study in statistics, mathematics, public health, or related field
  • Two years of public health experience
  • Two years of data management or analysis experience using Microsoft SQL, SAS, or other programming software
  • Experience working as part of a team
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft (MS) Excel or similar program

Preferred:

  • A master’s degree from a college or university with a major course of study in statistics, mathematics, public health, or related field
  • Professional or nonprofessional statistical experience
  • Advanced data management and analysis experience using Microsoft SQL
