Your Team, Your Impact
The Optics team builds highly integrated component platforms with high speed Silicon photonics, transmit and receive amplifiers, controller ASIC’s with Marvell DSP’s. These components are made operational with a highly functional embedded firmware. The team is responsible for design, verification, and validation of these integrated high speed optical components. The team performs system level testing under various operating conditions, and validates the performance of the hardware, firmware and control loops. An engineer in this team will be involved in a full product lifecycle and will carry new products from inception all the way to NPI.

What You Can Expect

  • The optical connectivity team at Marvell seeks an Optical Systems Engineer to perform system verification testing and characterization of our coherent optical modules.
  • Characterize module transmission performance: CD penalty, PMD/PDL tolerance, filtering, CFO, etc…
  • Characterize and tune optical module and DSP performance.
  • Automate module characterization and test cases.
  • Write SVT reports summarizing module transmission performance.
  • Build, maintain, and automate DWDM DCI, Metro, and LH test bed.
  • Support field test cases such as optical protection switching and transients.
  • This role has high visibility within the team, supporting new features in our shipping products as well as providing input into design, integration, and characterization of our next generation coherent optical modules, devices, and DSP.

What We’re Looking For
Master’s degree and/or PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering or related fields with 2-3 years of experience.

Required Skills

  • Experience with coherent communication systems, modulation methods, and performance metrics of optical communication systems.
  • Experience with optical test equipment including OSA, OTDR, EDFA’s, optical filters, optical switches, etc…
  • Strong understanding of optical devices.
  • Strong understanding of optical impairments such as ASE, chromatic dispersion, PDL, PMD, optical filtering.
  • Experience designing optical test configurations and experiments.
  • Experience with coherent optical modem performance testing metrics and methodologies.
  • Proficient in at least in one programming language such as Python, C/C++, C#, or MATLAB.
  • Strong analytical and data analysis skills. Experience with JMP or Minitab a plus.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Willingness to work in the lab.
  • Strong team player.
