Description:

The role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Opto-Mechanical Product Design Engineer to join our Engineering Team. This role will provide technical design expertise for opto-electronic product development, as well as supporting manufacture, new product introduction, and process optimisation.

Main responsibilities

  • Define, design and develop opto-electronic products and solutions for harsh environment applications, including high temperature
  • Mechanical model design (2D, 3D) and simulation including stress and thermal analysis
  • Mechanical design to define and develop optical fibre interconnect and coupling solutions; design and integration of custom product enclosures to achieve robust and hermetic packaging solutions
  • Mechanical design of various tools and jigging to support manufacture processes
  • Input to define product specifications, engineering packages and to assist in generating manufacture documentation and configuration
  • Assist in set up of prototype manufacture equipment and processes, including carrying out and overseeing first off trials and assembly

Education/qualifications

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline

Experience

  • Strong opto-mechanical background and manufacture experience
  • Highly experienced user of 2D & 3D mechanical CAD and simulation for complex design and analysis
  • Product design and optimisation for volume manufacture
  • Good awareness of manufacture processes and equipment related to fibre products manufacture
  • Working knowledge of materials and technologies related to ceramic and thick film, MCM and PCB based solutions
  • Expert user in SolidWorks CAD or equivalent
  • High reliability microelectronics product design (preferably AS9100, MIL-PRF-38534)
