Description:

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The optometric assistant is involved in direct patient contact and collection of clinical data necessary for the visual health and performance of the patient. Accuracy and attention to detail are very important. This position is responsible for collecting clinical data in the following areas: case history, prescriptions, exam room testing, and letters. This position works directly with the doctor. The Optometric assistant is responsible for ensuring a positive patient experience in scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, schedule managements, data entry into electronic health record.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must have computer skills and the ability to learn EMR system
  2. Strong ability to multi-task with high degree of accuracy, attention to detail a must
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  4. Excellent customer service, previous experience beneficial
  5. Superior verbal and written skills
  6. Strong interpersonal skills essential
  7. Able to transition and think operationally
  8. Multilingual candidate is a plus (English is a must, Ukrainian and Polish an asset)
    Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
    Pay: $16.55-$24.00 per hour
    Expected hours: 24 – 40 per week

Responsibilities:

  1. Opens exam rooms, ensuring that all the equipment and instruments are present and cleaned.
  2. Enters some clinical data collected into the electronic medical record in real time.
  3. Alerts doctor to any abnormal or unusual findings found by the pretesting staff
  4. Chairside assisting
  5. General responsibilities include keeping the examination rooms clean, neat, and ready for the next patient.
  6. Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned
  7. Prepares the professional letters with the physician summarizing the appointment
  8. Pushes through charges for billing
  9. Manages the schedule - creates screening and front desk schedule daily, calls late patients, cancels and reschedules appointment, notifies doctor of any changes to the schedule throughout the day, keeps doctor up to date about patients as they move through the office
  10. Responsible for the following areas of patient care: telephone reception, greeting patients, assisting patients with forms and web registration, checking all completed paperwork
  11. Prepares exam forms for the next day, prints and prepares all patient forms
  12. Straightens up the reception area during the day, restocks snacks and water
