Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the primary point of contact for queries from clinical and non-clinical staff within Medical Oncology and closely related teams.
  • Provide a high level of collaboration and customer service to providers and staff across a variety of departments, patients and families, in person, by phone, email, and MyChart messages.
  • Advocates for patients receiving Oral Chemotherapy Prescriptions ensuring delivery of medications, assess compliance and follow up.
  • Serve as liaison between patient, Medical Oncology staff, and patient assistance programs to ensure the diagnosis will support medical necessity.
  • Verify benefits, coordinate patient assistance programs, requests prior authorization from insurance when needed ensuring requests are made for the correct medication, dose and frequency. Providing supporting documentation, as needed.
  • Will work directly with specialty pharmacies, foundations and manufacturers’ patient assistance programs and coordinate medication deliveries to patients.
  • Keep track of patient assistance approvals as well as prior authorization expirations and request renewals to ensure patients do not have gaps in treatment. Escalate patient queries, problems and general issues to the manager or relevant clinical staff as appropriate.
  • Manages fax queue and electronic refill requests, and answers incoming phone calls in a professional and timely manner.
  • Initiate projects to improve communication, processes and procedures, and train staff on all new processes.
  • Maintains and develops department processes, records, reports, forms and files.
  • High quality documentation within the Electronic Health Record.
  • Follows current guidelines and protocols for all REMS programs.
  • Works efficiently under pressure to meet work/time/travel deadlines amidst ongoing distractions.
