The Organics Waste Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all activities (and CUPE staff) on the Organics Tip Floor and Cure Site at the EWMC.
SKILLS REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS:
- Knowledge of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and industry standards associated with health and safety management systems in Alberta
- Knowledge of the Alberta Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and its associated regulations as well as industry standards associated with composting facilities in Alberta
- Strong technical understanding of organic decomposition
- Ability to forge strong relationships (up and down, as well as sideways)
- Work performance management skills, conflict resolution skills, and other related communication skills
- Ability to manage administrative responsibilities, including running the day-to-day and month-to-month activities on an industrial work site
- Familiarity with City of Edmonton policies, directives, and organizational structure
- Experience with a large government bureaucracy is beneficial

Qualifications:
- Five years of supervisory experience in a unionized and regulated environment
- A certificate consistent with the requirements of the Alberta Landfill and Composting Facility Operator Certification Guideline is required. Holders of inactive certificates will be required to reactivate certificate
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and be accountable for all aspects of the safety management system at the worksite
- Conduct all people management activities on the worksite
- Coordinate mobile equipment maintenance, availability, and procurement, as well as fixed equipment maintenance at the worksite
- Liaise with and effectively leverage the support from other City groups in performance of these tasks, while resolving any emerging inter-group conflict
- Facilitate capital improvement projects (led by other City groups) on the worksite
- Authorize and then deliver on Organics operational commitments to internal customers at the EWMC on a day-by-day to month-by-month basis
- Work with the Supervisor, Organics Processing Operations to develop and then deliver on commitments made to outside contractors
