Description:

We are looking for an enthusiastic person who will be able to lead the friendly and hardworking OT team in the stroke and neuro service for 9 months whilst covering a maternity leave. This post will be ideal for someone who will model positive relationships and has a strong work ethic. The post holder must have well developed stroke / neuro clinical skills, be able to work with the Therapy lead for Stroke and Neurology to support the team operationally and must show a commitment to supporting the well being of all team members.
To provide a high standard Occupational Therapy service.
To maintain an agreed case load within in the clinical specialism, performing advanced assessment of patients including those with highly complex presentations. To formulate diagnoses and treatment plans, as an autonomous practitioner.
To undertake line manager duties for the team.
To work alongside the Inpatient Therapy Manager, Therapy Lead for Stroke and Neurology, and the Occupational Therapy Professional Lead, in planning, co-coordinating, delivering and evaluating the service.
To be instrumental in the on-going development of services and practices that provide high quality care and interventions.
To carry out any special duties associated with the post (see section below).

Management and Personal Development

  • Managing patient flow in the team/ensuring minimal delays to patient care
  • Operational Supervision and appraisal of Band 6 staff in team, and general management of a team of staff, bands 3 to 6.
  • Sickness absence management.
  • Early stages of disciplinary and capability with support of HR and Deputy Therapy Managers.
  • Health and Safety of team/therapy environments.
  • Ensuring clinical supervision is carried out within the team.
  • Study leave requests co-ordination and first level authorisation.
  • Recruitment: responsibility for job descriptions, ads, interviewing and informing Therapy Manager of details of appointments.
  • Appropriate response and feedback to incidents
  • Professional leadership within field of expertise.
  • Maintain own competency to practice through CPD activities and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development.
  • To take part in annual 360 appraisals.
  • To facilitate student placements within the department and provide support to clinical educators within the team.

Clinical Activities

  • Achieve clinical competencies in line with requirements of the specialism
  • Ensure a high standard of clinical care for patients and support staff to do likewise.
  • Undertake specialist assessment of patients with complex presentation as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Use advanced clinical reasoning skills and expertise to form accurate diagnosis.
  • Formulate and deliver individual therapy treatment plans using a range of assessment and treatment skills.
  • Manage clinical risk within patient caseload.
  • Supporting students / work experience students.

Strategic Development, Planning and Organising

  • Work within Trust, HCPC and clinical guidelines, applying working knowledge of national and local standards
  • Monitoring team activity/performance, including patient activity, mandatory training attendance, PDRS etc
  • Act in ‘nominated lead’ capacity, representing Team Leads from other services and cascading information as required.
  • Attendance at relevant service wide meetings eg SMH Board, Stroke Governance Group, SDEC Tackling Delays group etc

Administrative

  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical case notes.

Responsible for E-rostering, annual leave planning and recording of sickness absence within the team
