EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years post basic experience as OT Technician.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB

Under the direction of OT Supervisor perform a variety of technical assistance to surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses in the operating room, assures functioning of equipment and keeps ready supplies required for each case, performs related duties as assigned.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Sets up the assigned OT to be ready for surgery based on the specific department requirement.

Obtain and arrange on all OT table ,machines and supplies that are required for the surgery.

Assist in positioning and shifting of the patient when needed; drape /cover patient; maintain sterile field during the procedure.

Adhere to department policies and procedures related to aseptic technique and sterile techniques; comply with Universal Precautions and OT dress code.

Check suction equipment for proper functioning and may operate or assist in operating suction equipment during surgery.

Communicate accurately and effectively with patients, pertinent staff and physicians.

Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Demonstration of annual skills required.

Adhere to standard policies as outlined in department related to infection control, fire and safety, hazardous chemicals, personnel policies and departmental procedures.

Assist in ensuring all consumables related to the machines in OT are available (like DVD, glossy, ink, CD sticker) and are given to their utilization.

Maintain an accurate checklist for all the devices/ equipment available and perform necessary check (as per their scope).

Transfer equipment from and to OT as needed and to other departments.

Operate required equipment as per scope in assigned surgeries.

Ensure all equipment are stored and safe in designated areas and inspected as per guidelines.

Report any faulty operation on timely manner for replacement or repair.

Provide technical training to other staff as needed.

Contribute to the unit Improvement plans as needed and according to ability and scope.

Ensure quality and patient safety practices are followed

Provide or promotes patient and family- centered care.
