Out of School Care Coordinator. 35 hours per week. Full-Time position. This is an On-Site position. This is a non-union Coordinator position that will be joining Kiwassa’s growing leadership team.
Overview: Kiwassa Neighbourhood House grows a welcoming and inclusive community in the vibrant Hastings-Sunrise and Grandview-Woodland neighbourhoods of East Vancouver, Located on the traditional, unceded and occupied territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səlílw̓ətaʔ/Selilwitulh (TsleilWaututh), and xʷməθkwəyə̓ m (Musqueam) Nations.

JOB SUMMARY:

We are currently seeking a passionate, enthusiastic and experienced Coordinator at for our Out of School Care Programs. This person will lead educators in licensed, group programs providing a range of multicultural, inclusive programs for children Kindergarten to Grade 6. Since 1951, we have been working in partnership across sectors and disciplines – to create a welcoming place where people can find a helping hand, services they need, and opportunities to be connected and engaged in their community. Drawing on the power and resiliency of our neighbourhood, we work to create a socially just and thriving community where everyone feels valued and secure. Kiwassa has 150 licensed child care spaces in four locations, offering quality childcare to infants, toddlers and school-aged children.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Knowledge

  • Early Childhood Education Certificate preferred, or willingness to obtain ECEA immediately
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Proven abilities and experience in team leadership and staff/volunteer supervision, with a minimum of five years’ experience supervising in a team environment
  • Three years’ recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Training and Experience

  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations and community partners
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Building operations/facility management experience
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, CRM and database management
  • Excellent communication, writing, planning, computer skills and problem solving abilities
  • Applicants must be 19 years or older on their first day of employment.

Compensation: $27.95 - $32.95/ hourly

Responsibilities:

THE KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS ROLE INCLUDE:

  • Supervising a staff team of up to 12 – including managing schedules, vacation and sick time
  • Over see four Before and After School Care Programs day to day
  • Support with planning, registration, and execution of Winter, Spring, and Summer Programs
  • Selecting, developing, training Early Childhood Educators and volunteers
  • Helping to create, and then managing the program budget
  • Coordinating registration for programs
  • Ensuring licensing requirements are met

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Liaising with current and potential families, funders, contractors and partners – as well as with other departments of the Neighbourhood House
  • Maintaining database, files, statistics and program information, meets obligations of funding contracts, and meets reporting requirements
  • Assisting with management of waiting list and childcare communications
  • Communicating with families about children’s growth and development, program activities, etc.
  • Ensuring safety and wellbeing of children participating in programs
  • Participating as a member of Kiwassa’s Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Other duties, as assigned
