Description:

SUMMARY

The International Center’s Community Programs provide ESOL programming to adult English language learners in communities throughout Manhattan and the Bronx. These programs provide educational resources and learning opportunities for under-served populations, including day laborers and their families in the South Bronx and northern Manhattan. The Center offers four quarterly ESOL/Citizenship Preparation classes for students throughout the city and Lower Hudson Valley.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including the following. Other duties may be assigned. Administrative and Clerical Responsibilities:

  • Conduct phone, text, email, and other outreach to community members regarding new and continuing programs.
  • Conduct thorough intake and needs assessment of adult learners enrolling in Community ESOL Programs and ESOL/Citizenship classes, in English and Spanish.
  • Lead online orientation sessions in English and Spanish for students at the beginning of each course, four times per year.
  • Assist learners with accessing online classes by providing individual support and leading Zoom workshops.
  • Provide information and referrals to clients on useful resources including Catholic Charities programs and affiliated agencies, other community-based organizations, and local government programs.
  • Conduct follow-up with learners after programs begin to confirm enrollment and answer questions. Conduct follow-up at the end of each course to invite students to register for next cycle, provide support for students with their plans/next steps, and assist with class reflections and certificates.
  • Maintain detailed record-keeping and secure documentation of student- and program-related data. Track outreach efforts/results/student information using shared tools.
  • Communicate regularly with program staff, students, and partners; respond promptly to requests.
  • Facilitate community workshops and presentations by outside organizations and provide support to attendees in Spanish.
  • Assist with intake, orientation, and registration for DYCD, ONA, and NYSED-funded or other programs, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Ability to manage high-volume communication and priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability and experience working with diverse individuals and communities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Technology skills, including experience with Zoom, WhatsApp, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel,PowerPoint), Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms), and comfort learning new applications and platforms as necessary

  • Remain at work station and in meetings to perform operational, administrative and coordination tasks;
  • Travel, as needed, by using public transportation or vehicle, traverse city streets, occasionally ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Carry a laptop and event-related documents to offsite work stations
