As an Outside Plant Telecom Engineer, you will design and engineer outside plant routing for MSFTs metro and long-haul connectivity requirements. You will work with our Sourcing team, our delivery team, and our fibre network providers to ensure our fibre network standards are met. This opportunity will allow you to contribute to building a world-class network infrastructure by working with Metro Dark Fiber, Long-Haul Fiber, subsea, and Lit Wave circuits.
Role based in Sydney

As an Outside Plant Telecom Engineer, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft’s online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ideally you will have 6 - 8 + years’ experience in civil or telecommunication engineering or technical program management
  • Min 2+ years’ experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Ability to work across multiple time zones
  • Knowledge of local regulatory requirements on optical fibre network construction & deployment
  • Knowledge of optical transmission system and network availability analysis
  • Bachelors degree in related field or equivalentexperience

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Empower a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspects of data centre activities.
  • Outside Plant (OSP) optical fibre network design, planning and engineering for new and existing regions.
  • Approving service provider designs, conducting site walks, permitting, and performing quality assurance inspections.
  • Reading and understanding highway/road prints, be able to identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, and select routing required for work projects.
  • Optical fiber test results analysis for Microsoft’s metro, regional fabric, and long-haul networks are delivered adhering to Microsoft Standards
  • Communicate with all peers and departments to ensure optical network designs meet Microsoft and Industry standards
  • Maintain accurate cable network records and updates in GIS System

ROLE BASED IN SYDNEY

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
