As part of the ONxpress consortium, Alstom is proudly working to transform the collective mobility of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas (GTHA) through the On-Corridor Works project, and we are hiring for hundreds of roles. The GO Expansion scope : new electric locomotives, fleet upgrades, train control systems, network electrification, signalling, telecommunications and digital systems, maintenance, and much more.
Alstom is seeking a Overhead Catenary System (OCS) Designer. This individual will be responsible to establish and review basic and detailed design documents for the project, with a focus on structural design.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and submission of Structural design documents and calculation notes related to OCS subsystem
  • Technical Interface Management with internal and external stakeholders
  • Technical management of suppliers and subcontractors
  • Responsible for on-time Design submission for his allocated deliverables
  • Sign-off OCS design documents delivered
  • Prepare and submit BIM format documents when applicable
  • Provide support on structural OCS topics to System Engineering team
  • Respect of Engineering Management Plan and Design Quality Plan
  • Requirement development, coming from reference and applicable documents from Metiers, Standards, Certification, Safety, Platform and Customer, and for transverse requirement allocations to the various subsystems in close collaboration with the relevant specialists
  • Respect of normative references and Canada/Ontario standards and/or rules
  • Integration of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety (RAMS) requirements
  • Support in definition of the global OCS typical assemblies and components and basic design (OCS layouts, overlaps, crossover…etc) as per the external/internal requirements
  • Consistency and compatibility between all the sub-systems specifications
  • Efficiency of the transversal studies related to OCS (CEM, Earthing & Bonding…)
  • Technical interface with Customer to provide support to OCS Sub-system and OCS Design Manager
  • Coordination with Off-shore Design team
  • Participation to Design Reviews, part of the DFQ process
  • Definition of components technical criteria and technical evaluation of suppliers
  • Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) procedures and technical assistance to FAT if any
  • Bill of Quantities (BOQ) elaboration, review and update
  • Support on arbitration on architecture definition between the subsystems to reach the best compromise for the OCS design
  • Participate in collecting REX on OCS design
  • Checking of suppliers, sub-contractors and in-house OCS designs and ensure technical compliance
  • Review and getting approval of design deliverables and reply to comments

The OCS team is mainly composed of on-shore located in Toronto, Canada, and off-shore part located in St-Ouen, France.
Reporting
This position will report to the Overhead Catenary System (OCS) Design Leader

The candidate will liaise with:

  • Engineering: Central Engineering and Transverse Engineering team
  • Project: Project management team
  • Site: Construction management team
  • Customer, Consultants, External stakeholders
  • Civil Works and Track works partners
  • Interfacing sub-systems (Rolling Stock, Trackwork, OCS, Signalling, Civil works)
  • Regional Centers

  • Respect of Design For Quality (DFQ) milestones: 100% Go On Time, in accordance with the standards or rules of their Metier
  • Respect of performances of the system provided: 100%
  • The quality of the works performed

Educational Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Bachelor’s Degree of Mechanical/Civil/Electrical Systems

Prefered :

  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering
  • Professional Engineer designation as per Canadian regulations is prefered, or in progress

Experience

  • A minimum of 4-5 years of experience in structural engineering
  • A first experience in Overhead Catenary System design is preferred
  • Good knowledge of Canada standards and common practices
  • Good knowledge of BIM softwares and BIM design
  • Autonomy, motivated, initiative, team spirit
  • Fluent in English, second language appreciated
