DESCRIPTION

The Overland Manager, Europe is responsible for the service delivery of all road freight shipments within Europe. Reporting to the Global VP of Operations, you will work closely with the Overland operations team, the overland commercial team, Customer Operations, and Customs to ensure a first-class service for each customer with European road freight requirements.
You will build and develop high-performing Overland teams, ensuring their consistent delivery for customers. This includes maintaining low overall transit times within Europe, as well as the accuracy and timeliness of operational updates on the Zencargo platform, and the accuracy and timeliness of billing.
You will be responsible for maximising margin on your shipments. You will also be accountable for ensuring the performance of third parties, including manufacturers and our haulier partners within Europe.
Finally, you will work closely with the operations management team to build strong working relationships and foster a culture of engagement within the wider global Operations team.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

  • A minimum of 5 years working in a top freight forwarding company in a management operational role within European Roadfreight
  • Extensive experience of building, developing and managing high performing operations and commercial teams
  • A customer-focused approach to solving problems
  • A desire and motivation to build something innovative and disruptive
  • Comfortable working with large volumes of data and reporting
  • Happy to get into the weeds - we are a fast growing start-up and everyone has to pull together to deliver our vision
  • Willingness to travel within Europe when required
  • Experience of working in a start-up or SME is desirable, although not essential

Responsibilities:

The following table outlines the details of the Overland Operations Team’s and Overland Operations Managers responsibilities including the customer outcome, the responsibility that it drives and the KPI that will be used to measure success. As Overland Operations Manager, you will be responsible for building, developing and managing the team to deliver this.

  • Manage and nurture the Overland Commercial Team to ensure pricing is turned around quickly and margins are managed inline with budgets/P&L.
  • Manage and nurture the Overland Operations Team to ensure best in class service.
  • Ensure all daily communication, for Road, is fast and at the standard that our customers and we expect
  • Ensure timely planning and coordination of cargo release
  • Available merchant haulage is pooled, tracked and fully utilised to support all customer deliveries
  • Work with partners to manage shipments and escalate whenever partner SOPs are breached, firstly directly calling the partner, then with the Road procurement team
  • Feed in the detail for the design of the SOP ready for sign off with the customer
  • Feed in the detail for the maintenance of the SOP as required by Customer Success Manager, as well as delivering against it through customer life
  • Accurately document costs and revenues through V&As on the platform ready to be raised as invoices by Finance
  • Manage documentation efficiently and store on platform
  • Ensure accurate and timely updates of the Zencargo platform, including detailed annotations of actions taken.

  • Ensure customer invoice and accruals are accurate on each shipment and where errors on invoices are identified, records are updated accordingly
