DESCRIPTION
Provides law enforcement services for the Bronson Emergency Department, Bronson Hospital, hospital grounds and the neighborhoods in close proximity to Bronson. Monitor crime statistics and share information with Bronson administration to design crime prevention strategies. Assist Bronson Security Officers and Bronson administrators with emergency crisis planning and building-security issues. Maintain visibility in those areas of the hospital campus as determined by Bronson administrators. This position is part-time and expected to work 20 hours per week.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates degree with coursework in criminal justice or related field, or equivalent education and/or experience.
- Currently or previously licensed by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES).
- Valid driver’s license in the State of Michigan.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1-3 or more years’ experience as an MCOLES licensed law enforcement officer preferred.
- Bilingual preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Expected to perform the following or it is a critical part of the position: running, driving motor vehicles at a high rate of speed, lifting (over 50 lbs.), pushing or pulling, climbing, bending, reaching, hand dexterity (grasping, holding), reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, seeing (near and/or far, color, depth, field of vision), hearing, talking, contact with the general public, working alone, overtime, inside and outside and at night.
Responsibilities:
- Patrols an assigned area on foot or in a radio-equipped cruiser to prevent crime and disorder, to protect life and property, to direct traffic, investigate accidents, and enforce motor vehicle operations and parking regulations.
- Responds to radio dispatches and answers calls and complaints; explains and enforces applicable State and local laws and ordinances.
- Investigates suspicious activities; interviews witnesses, victims, and suspects to obtain additional necessary information regarding crimes, accidents, violations, etc.; conducts searches; apprehends and arrests violators of the law.
- Serves criminal processes including warrants and subpoenas as necessary.
- Writes and issues tickets for infractions such as parking, traffic, and ordinance violations.
- Restores order when called to the scene of traffic accidents or other emergencies.
- Assists elderly and ill people, gives first aid, and locates missing persons and lost children; guards prisoners and assumes responsibility for their safety and personal property while in custody.
- Keeps records and makes reports of accidents, complaints, criminal offenses, and other incidents.
- Provides information and assistance to the general public.
- Obtains and preserves evidence, testifies in court, and otherwise assists in the prosecution of criminal cases.
- Ensures vehicle is properly maintained and performs vehicle inspections; maintains individual equipment.
- Assists other law enforcement agencies when requested or assigned.
