Responsibilities:

THE ROLE:

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Packaging Development Scientist to join our Research & Development Lab in Mississauga to support our Tea Plant located in Ajax. In this role, you will develop and execute specific packaging related projects which will drive Mother Parkers’ business growth opportunity in an increasingly competitive private label environment. You will work closely with cross functional teams to define, coordinate, and execute projects related to new packaging prototype, new packaging development, cost saving initiatives, existing packaging enhancement or changes, and/or troubleshooting operational issues. We will also look to you to identify future opportunities in both packaging development and plant OEE improvement.
You will be required to work on-site at both our Mississauga and Ajax locations.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO:

  • Theorize/inquire samples for food packaging and other materials.
  • Analyze materials in the lab and qualify materials performance during plant processing equipment trials.
  • Coordinate different departments (purchasing, operation, quality, supply chain) to qualify and scale up materials or other items.
  • Organize/coordinate/conduct lab & processing trials, and compile and analyze test results.
  • Coordinate other technical projects such as competitive analysis on marketplace products or plant/process capability.
  • Support tea and allied products production and engineering for troubleshooting or new machinery/process qualification.
  • Maintain/manage packaging material specifications and ensure timely preparation of required documentation for packaging development projects.
  • Organize and manage R&D incoming samples, materials etc.
  • Prepare samples/testing for sales, marketing, development, and other business divisions when applicable.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:

  • Degree in Science and Engineering, with background in chemistry/materials.
  • 2 - 3 years of experience in packaging development in the CPG industry.
  • Excellent communication skills; effectively communicating amongst suppliers, internal technical group, purchasing and supply chain.
  • Demonstrated DOE and Statistical analysis experience.
  • Knowledge in GMP, HACCP and SQF (or equivalent).
  • Ability to travel to the Ajax Tea Facility and visit potential new Vendors as required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
