PACKAGING OPERATOR
Department: Processing-WIP Job Status: Full Time
FLSA Status: Non-exempt Reports To: Seed Operations Manager
Amount of Travel Required: 5-10% Work Schedule: Monday-Friday

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is accountable for all packing activities of vegetable seeds and non-seed materials assigned to them during operational hours. It is a critical role of properly handling the activities of all outbound finished goods from our facility. Secondary responsibilities will be support shipping/receiving inbound/outbound material. This position must have a high degree of attention to details, strong quality control and productivity practices to ensure timely and accurate execution.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
One (1) to two (2) years experience in manufacturing and/or agricultural operations as it relates to shipping/receiving. Working knowledge of MS Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to handle exposure to the following: dust, heat, hazardous chemicals, and noise. Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift a minimum of 35lbs. Strong analytical skills. Demonstrated leadership and program management skills. Strong relationship building skills with ability to collaborate/work effectively with internal colleagues and customers. Demonstrated teamwork and organizational skills. Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
Responsibilities:
Pack each order with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Pack and verify finished goods are packaged and assemble per the Process Assignment process. Pack shipment in sequential order and verify material identification, counts and weights are correct. Stack packed finished goods on pallets or in boxes. Perform all quality checks and documentation correctly. Label pallets or boxes based on planners direction. Prepare and ship bulk seed to 3rd party vendors for processing
Split bulk lot quantities. Blend component lots of the seed material. Obtain all relevant receiving documentation and verify in computer ERP system and plan for inbound shipments by dates and working with Production and Traffic. Reconcile and account for receiving contents against packing list, documentation and computer. Check for damage goods and report to supervisor. Weigh/count all contents and reconcile with packing list and expected quantities. Stage and receive all inbound seed and non-seed materials according to priorities. Weigh/count all contents and reconcile with packing list against expected quantities. Sample seed lots according to ISTA rules. Perform seed counts and moisture tests. Pull master sample and sub-divide into QC sub samples. Weigh seed lot after samples are pulled and located contents in warehouse locations. Enter all relevant receiving information into the computer ERP system. Perform transactions in the computer ERP system and close receiving order. Perform necessary warehouse inventory and processing tasks as required. Pass forklift certification to move seed or other materials. Operate in a knowledgeable, accurate, and safe manner various equipment including dryers, conditioning, disinfection equipment, packaging, seed counters and moisture testers, etc. Locate, weigh and inspect seed lots prior to processing adhering to procedures. Ability to manage and prioritize the printing of batch ID labels with efficiency and accuracy. Consolidate inventory lots (blending) and maximize use of available warehouse space in accordance with seasonal flow. Ensure that lot identities are double checked by a co-worker for verification. Adhere to and maintain good housekeeping practices for all assigned areas. Perform all other duties assigned as directed.
