Description:
Clinical Responsibilities To provide individualised, high quality and clinically safe care to post surgery/post anaesthesia patients Ensures work environment is safe, well-equipped, and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness especially before and after receiving patient into Recovery area. Provision of individualised care needs in conjunction with the anaesthetic and surgical teams supported and guided by Senior Recovery Practitioner/Recovery Lead Practitioner as necessary. Accepts responsibility with awareness of own professional competence and limitations and acknowledge own boundaries by asking for assistance as required. Recognise and appropriately respond to urgent and emergency situations.
To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team demonstrating awareness of role and responsibilities. To update the patient care records ensuring own responsibility and accountability in maintaining accurate nursing documentation using Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system and in any other form. Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary clinical practice, explore new ideas and introduce positive evidence-based change in line with the local and national guidelines such as Association of Perioperative Practice (AfPP), Royal College of Nursing (RCN), Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI), National Institute of Care Essence (NICE), British Association of Recovery Nurses Association (BARNA) etc. Demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based practice and clinical excellence and play an active role in the introduction of this evidence to improve patient centred care, clinical practice, and service delivery.
Identify, discuss, and report any relevant nursing/patient care needs with the team and to inform and involve patient with their care plans. To carry out all relevant nursing procedures and practices in line with the Trusts guidelines and policies including adherence to local guidelines, policies, and protocols. Personal and Professional Responsibilities Maintain an up-to-date Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) registration. Ensure they meet the requirements for revalidation and/or keep professional portfolio updated.
Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct (2018) and other appropriate NMC guidelines. To act in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct (2018) with reference to limitations of competence and conduct. Is wholly responsible and accountable for own nursing practice and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve knowledge, clinical skills, and professional competence. Ensure own Mandatory and Statutory Training (MaST) compliance and compliance of others to include relevant professional development training requirements.
To actively participate in Trusts yearly appraisal/ performance development review process as laid out by the Trusts Appraisal and Personal Development Plan Policy. Adhere to the Trusts Drug Administration Policy, ensuring correct recording, dispensing, and safe administration of drugs are always observed. Immediately report any discrepancies as they are discovered. To complete necessary training for the scope of professional practice including administration of intravenous drugs and competently assessed in advance practice of intravenous opioid administration in Recovery.
Responsible for ensuring awareness of current nursing developments in National Health Services (NHS) and relevant specialist clinical practices. Promotion of continuous quality improvements by participating in perioperative projects/activities enhancing the standards of care. Adhere to the Trusts Uniform and Dress Code Policy. Adherence to Trusts guidelines and policies relating to good working practice within the clinical area
