Description:

Do you have a passion for the complexities of caring for children with a haemoglobinopathy diagnosis and their families? We are looking to recruit a motivated and hard-working individual. Someone who has an excellent clinical skill set and the compassion and communication skills to foster efficient relationships. They must effectively care for the child and families of children with a haemoglobinopathy condition who require both physical, emotional, and psychological support.
The post-holder is an autonomous practitioner who will provide specialist nursing advice and support to children and young people (CYP) with a haemoglobinopathy diagnosis and their family, throughout the care pathway.
They are a clinical expert, working autonomously as a senior member of the multi-professional team; providing specialist paediatric haemoglobinopathy advice and contributing to service development. They are able to make informed decisions and develop and coordinate the care of paediatric haemoglobinopathy patients within their scope of professional practice.
The post holder will ensure that staff, patients and the public are involved throughout their care to ensure agreed standards and targets are me and they will provide clinical leadership, promote nursing excellence in practice and be able to work across organisational boundaries.

  • Coordinate the care of haemoglobinopathy patients and promote good practice in the diagnosis and management of CYP with a haemoglobinopathy condition and their families.
  • To provide CYP and staff with specialist advice to manage simple and complex symptoms
  • To work collaboratively and share expertise within the multidisciplinary teams both locally and nationally.
  • To act as a resource in the care of patient’s needs, ensuring an optimum level of service to patients and their families.
  • To work closely with network, other hospital, and community staff to ensure an effective seamless service.
  • To provide a high level of communication skills to enable effective and comprehensive care planning within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To build up a skill set to embed patient and public involvement within the sphere of specialist nursing practice.
  • To ensure that CYP and their families are aware of all treatment options, including clinical trials
  • To work as a patient advocate, to help negotiate the patient journey and ensure optimum care is provided.
  • To adhere to infection control guidelines and procedures.
  • To act as a positive role model and promote an effective team ethos through the demonstration of excellent clinical skills.
