The Paediatric Orthopaedic team are delighted to be recruiting for an enthusiastic and dynamic Trainee Band 7 Advanced Clinical Practitioner to will join the Children’s Trauma and Orthopaedic team at Southampton Children’s Hospital. This is a training post, and you will be supported to complete an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.
The tACP/ACP team are vital within our team, providing care, guidance, support and education, therefore it is essential that the candidate has experience working within a Paediatric Orthopaedic setting. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop specialist skills and become a competent member of our Advanced Clinical Practitioner team; they will have extensive support from our most experienced paediatric orthopaedic nurses and clinicians. Some of this development will be through participating in joint consultant and nurse-led clinics where they will learn how children and young people are clinically assessed, diagnosed and treatment options discussed. There will also be the opportunity to access further specialist education and or training days.
The service currently operates Monday to Friday 7am - 17:30pm, however there is scope for this to change as the service evolves, so the candidate should remain flexible.

Responsibilities:

Working with the existing multidisciplinary team you will be responsible for:

  • Providing specialist advice, education and support to health care professionals and parents/carers of children with orthopaedic and trauma conditions.

The role will include a combination of inpatient and outpatient duties, with opportunities arising from both sectors. Both will be fully supported to promote and work towards independent working.

  • Dealing with sensitive and distressing situations, managing these in an appropriate manner
  • Managing your own work load, assessing and prioritising within agreed specialist guidelines
  • Contributing to the development of the specialist service, ensuring documentation and programmes of care are updated regularly.
  • Ensuring documentation is completed to Trust policy and in accordance with NMC requirements
  • Building good working relationships with the multidisciplinary team and providing support to staff on the ward

Work in areas of specialist interest, with the option to develop specialist skills and knowledge
As part of the role, you will undertake a Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice. Throughout this process, you will be supported by both the ACP team and the Consultant team
