Responsibilities:
THE ROLE:
The Paediatric Palliative Medicine Specialist (PPMS) role with the VPPCP is a leadership position in paediatric palliative care in the state of Victoria. The role is a resource for paediatric and palliative care clinicians across the state, consulting around issues relating to the palliative care of children and adolescents. This includes symptom management, complex decision-making, care coordination and the psychosocial support of families. The PPMS is also involved in providing education, supervising trainees, developing clinical resources and contributing to research and quality initiatives. This role requires a presence across both RCH and the Monash Children’s Hospital.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL FOR THIS ROLE YOU HAVE:
- Advanced skills in communicating with children, young people, their families and the health professionals who care for them
- Advanced skills in managing the full range of symptoms experienced by children with life-limiting conditions
- Advanced skills in complex clinical decision-making
- Knowledge of the issues confronting children with life-limiting conditions and their families
- Knowledge of the principles of palliative care and key elements of practice
- A capacity to work in both hospital and community settings
- Skills in care planning and coordination
- A capacity to manage and work within an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to monitor the management of children with palliative care needs and their families through the treating healthcare and community teams
- Demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to provide best practice continuity of care
- Demonstrated capacity to manage stressful situations and conflict
