Our principal objective is to advise and represent agencies so that they can deliver the NSW Government’s policies, programs and projects in a lawful, effective and efficient manner. We are the sole provider of legal services in all matters regarded as core legal work. We also deliver non-core legal work to government agencies through competition with the private sector.

Legal services provided by the CSO include:

  • legal advice
  • representation in litigation
  • representation at inquests and other inquiries
  • property and commercial transactions
  • drafting documents and agreements, including intergovernmental agreements
  • assisting Royal Commissions and other inquiries
  • provision of officers to serve on committees
  • preparing publications
  • training and information for government agencies.

At the CSO, we believe a diverse and inclusive workforce contributes to the success of our organisation and we are committed to ensuring that our workforce reflects our diverse community.

Responsibilities:

You will provide comprehensive legal, clerical, and administrative support to solicitors and legal teams, including drafting court documents, preparing submissions, and conducting legal research. You will be responsible for supporting the effective management of legal matters, utilising practice and document management systems to ensure accurate information storage and timely communication.
The Paralegal position is a role for aspiring solicitors who have completed the first two years of their legal studies, with experience working in a professional services environment.
The Law Clerk position is an entry-level role designed for law students who have not yet reached the third year of their studies or do not have experience working in a professional services environment.
The role involves liaising with internal and external stakeholders, responding to inquiries professionally, and escalating issues when necessary. Your work will be crucial in maintaining organisational standards and delivering high-quality legal services to clients.
