Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY

The Paralegal works under the supervision and direction of one or more CommonSpirit Health attorneys to provide paralegal support in one or more assigned functional areas of the Legal Team (e.g., Operations, Real Estate, Labor and Employment, Compliance, Managed Care, E-Discovery, Transactions, etc.). The Paralegal may support one or more System office functions and Divisions, as assigned.

  • Perform Leasing, Real Estate and Construction Paralegal Work. Manage construction contracting process.
  • Is a team member and integral part of the Real Estate Center of Excellence (“RECOE”), the functional division of the Legal Team that primarily supports Commonspirit’s National Real Estate Services and CommonSpirit facilities on their real estate, construction and leasing legal matters;
  • Prepare a variety of legal documents, such as physician and non-physician agreements (at the paralegal skill level), utilizing templates and standard provisions approved by Legal Team leadership. In addition to agreements, documents may include, but are not limited to, corporate documents, forms, government filings, and legal memoranda.
  • Maintain legal files in electronic filing system, as instructed, and ensure proper indexing and filing of legal documents.
  • Effectively conduct legal research and analysis of applicable laws using various resources, including electronic databases and research tools.
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with other Legal Team members and with clients, as directed or requested by supervising attorney.
  • Complete and assist with completion of forms and government filings using sensitive and confidential information.
  • Use good judgment in interactions with clients, knowing when it is appropriate to escalate issues or concerns to the supervising attorney.
  • Assist with drafting and updating contract templates, enhancing record maintenance and sharing, and actively supporting Legal Team and organizational initiatives.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and meeting ongoing deadlines.
  • Take on responsibilities in furtherance of the Legal Team’s work and teambuilding efforts (e.g., volunteer to give reflections at Legal Team meetings, contribute to periodic paralegal calls, participate on workgroups, etc.), and in accordance with CommonSpirit Health’s mission, vision, and values.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study and paralegal certificate; or
  • Associate degree in paralegal studies or related field and two (2) years’ relevant work experience; or
  • Paralegal certificate and two (2) years’ relevant work experience.

REQUIRED MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND TRAINING

  • Proficiency or ability to become proficient using technology tools adopted by CommonSpirit Health and the Legal Team, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office tools, Google Suite, Westlaw, Lexis, etc.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Legal knowledge appropriate for the specialty for which the paralegal is assigned, e.g. healthcare regulation and operations, labor and employment law, real estate law, e-discovery, etc.
  • Analytic skills and ability to identify key legal issues and ability to proactively communicate such legal issues to supervising attorney.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to service, organizational values, and professionalism through appropriate conduct and demeanor at all times, acting with discretion, maintaining the confidentiality of privileged or protected information, and supporting positive relationships with other teams/departments.

    $27.77 - $40.27 /hou
