Description:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of relevant legal terminology.
  • Knowledge of legal research and investigation methodology.
  • Proficiency of federal and state e-courts filing systems.
  • Within the introductory period, obtain a working knowledge of the conduct and procedures required to perform the major duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Working knowledge of local government structure and operations, emphasis on detailed knowledge of tax office, social services, administration and operations.
  • Ability to read and understand legal documents such as contracts, deeds, claims, and opinions.
  • Ability to prepare necessary records, reports and documents.
  • Ability to express ideas effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate degree and one year of experience as a Paralegal.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Performs legal work assisting County staff attorneys in the performance of a wide variety of legal duties and services for the Guilford County Attorney’s Office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS

  • Reviews and drafts various documents including reports, correspondence, pleadings, other court filings as may be required, including but not limited to certificates of service and effectuating other service as may be required by the Federal and North Carolina Rules of Civil Procedure, and County Attorney’s office requirements.
  • Facilitation of and tracking of all electronic fillings as may be required on behalf of Guilford County; including uploading, retrieving, electronic service and other duties as may be required.
  • Review and edits of court summaries.
  • May compile exhibits and files for trial preparation.
  • Ability to draft notices and motions under the supervision of staff attorneys.
  • Assist staff attorneys with coordination of witnesses, exhibits, and other matters related to trial preparation.
  • Carries out legal research as assigned by all staff attorneys.
  • Performs legal investigation for various county departments.
  • Develops and organizes factual and legal information necessary to the proper handling of matters facing the County Attorney’s Office.
  • Perform other duties as required or requested
