Responsibilities:
Nicholas J. Ryan & Associates, in-house counsel for State Farm Insurance Companies, is seeking a paralegal to join our BI/UM team. Candidates must have knowledge of Insurance Defense Discovery procedures and litigation procedures, as well as local court rules. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, strong software/technological skills, and experience working in a paperless fast pace environment where all work is time sensitive are required for this role. Qualified candidates must be reliable, dedicated, and team-oriented with a professional appearance and demeanor.
Located in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, we enjoy an active, busy civil trial practice. We provide a congenial, team-oriented professional work environment with skilled support staff. We work hybrid work environment, spending some time working in office and some from home.
Qualifications:
- Prior litigation or paralegal experience, paralegal degree/certificate/certification, medical training, or relevant coursework or legal studies degree is required
- 3+ years of paralegal Discovery and trial experience; preferably in Insurance Defense. Plaintiff’s personal injury experience will be considered.
- Uses basic knowledge of discovery and litigation process in state of operation to assist attorneys with file handling
- Uses basic knowledge of civil procedure to draft routine pleadings, discovery, motions, and other documents as assigned by attorneys
- Uses basic understanding of medical terminology, records, typical injuries and treatment to assist attorneys with medical records collection and review of medical records in assigned files
- Develops skills in use of trial presentation technology to assist attorneys in trial preparation and presentation
