Description:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An Associate’s degree, OR completion of 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours at an institution of higher learning, OR demonstrated proficiency in the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing and mathematics via state or locally approved competency test
  • Regular, punctual attendance is essential
  • Ability to shelve items in both Dewey and alphabetical order with a high degree of accuracy based on knowledge of the organization of a library
  • Knowledge of the organization and use of digital resources (i.e., online catalog/circulation and research databases) and the ability to assist staff and students in their use
  • Previous experience in a school or public library helpful
  • Ability to perform tasks without direct supervision
  • Above average prior work record is necessary
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software and network issues.
  • Ability to interact with students and staff in a courteous, professional manner

Responsibilities:

  • Manages the distribution of resources through the online circulation system, prints barcodes, generates overdue and lost item notices and returns items to their proper locations
  • Prepares bibliographies and reports using the a variety of digital and print resources
  • Removes materials for school librarian review according to establish protocols
  • Downloads or duplicates media as requested within copyright guidelines
  • Reconcile purchase orders and invoices to ensure delivery of all new materials
  • Check new materials in through the library circulation system to ensure that catalog records, spine labels, and barcodes of items match
  • Jacket, barcode, stamp and add items to records in the circulation system as needed
  • Assist with marketing of the school library through development of engaging displays, shelf face-outs, brochures, flyers and announcements
  • Assist students and staff in locating information in both print and digital resources
  • Assist students in use of digital tools such as citation generators, word processing, and spreadsheets
  • Check out materials and equipment to students and staff
  • Check in and shelve materials accurately and quickly
  • Examine returned materials for need of repair
  • Gather and send materials to teachers upon request
  • Assist in supervision of students in the library
  • Adheres to library policies regarding privacy and access of resources
  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Assist in inventory of materials and equipment
  • Prepare records of discarded materials and box materials for pick-up
  • Repair books and other printed materials
  • Perform small repairs on audiovisual equipment and computers
