Description:

PARKING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

Primary Purpose: The Parking Enforcement Officer enforces the University of Saskatchewan parking regulations and provides parking lot response customer service as a uniformed member of Parking Services, covering the campus and affiliates (McEown Park, Innovation Place and the Williams building).
Nature of Work: Reporting to the Assistant Manager – Bylaw Prosecutions & Enforcement Supervisor, the incumbent walks across the campus and affiliates. Drives routinely, typically on campus. Some lifting of materials and equipment is required. Directs traffic during large events, stands on the road while issuing tickets. Services electronic parking equipment as required. Mainly evening and weekend shifts and is exposed to all weather conditions.
Typical Duties or Accountabilities: Issues parking tickets. Educates customers on parking rules and regulations and responds to their inquiries. Identifies vehicles with outstanding violations, Boots or requests tow trucks and supervises the towing. Responds to dispatch calls to investigate and/or address complaints, blocked roadways, parking in non-designated areas, all bylaw infractions etc. Reports suspicious activity to Protective Services. Testifies in court and may work briefly with the Court Prosecutor in preparation for testimony. Provides customer service relating to issues with the electronic pay equipment evenings and weekends. Backs up technicians as required during the day or in their absence. Assesses whether electronic equipment can be readily repaired and proceeds accordingly or refers to technical staff. Determines whether to close lane(s), open of the gates, or take other steps to support customers during repairs. Assists with garbage pickup and general caretaking of parkades and lots. Directs traffic flow before during and after large events as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of Grade 12.
Licenses: Must hold and maintain a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
Experience: Relevant work experience i.e. parking enforcement, military or security will be considered an asset. Equivalent education and experience may be considered. An understanding of technological equipment is an asset. As a condition of employment, the successful applicant must provide a current criminal record check.
Skills: Proven ability to communicate effectively with the public, including dealing calmly and tactfully with angry and/or abusive customers. Proficient computer skills. The ability to treat all confidential information and materials in a confidential manner. Work effectively within a community that is widely diverse in culture, age, ability and family status.
