Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs skilled, specialized maintenance, repair, and construction work in the completion of complex park maintenance assignments and projects; maintains and repairs park facilities and equipment, including irrigation, plumbing, structural, masonry, carpentry, lighting, and electrical systems.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Methods, tools, equipment, and procedures used in grounds and facilities maintenance and construction work, including irrigation, carpentry, painting, welding, plumbing, masonry, locksmithing, hydraulic, lighting, and electrical.
  • Procedures and techniques used in the proper maintenance and repair of a variety of construction and maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Computer applications related to the work, including word processing, spreadsheets, irrigation central control, asset management, and maintenance programs.
  • Proper grounds maintenance and gardening methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • The safe and proper use and application of pesticides.

Ability to:

  • Safely and effectively perform specialized and highly skilled maintenance and construction work.
  • Repair and maintain a variety of power and hand tools.
  • Safely and effectively operate and maintain automotive and specialized equipment utilized in grounds maintenance and general construction work.
  • Maintain a variety of records.

Responsibilities:

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs a variety of skilled electrical work at parks and associated facilities, such as troubleshooting and repair of irrigation controllers, valves, and electrical systems; repair and modification of electrical systems, equipment, components, and controls; repair of lighting systems.
  • Maintains and performs initial setup of potable and irrigation water systems, including the testing and certification of backflow prevention assemblies; performs repairs to sprinklers, valves, lateral and main lines, and pumps; monitors flow and adjusts irrigation systems using computer programs.
  • Performs a variety of skilled maintenance and repair work, including carpentry, painting, welding, plumbing, locksmithing, hydraulic, and electrical work.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of automotive and specialized equipment, including truck, tractor, hydraulic boom truck, pontoon boat, mowers, and associated attachments and implements.
  • Determines and recommends equipment and material needs for assigned maintenance projects; assists the Parks Crew Coordinator with purchasing and maintaining proper inventory of supplies as required for the program.
  • Operates and cares for a variety of hand tools and power equipment, including shovels, rakes, weed whips, chain saws, wrenches, screwdrivers, saws, drills, circuit tracers, and carpentry and metal shop fabrication equipment.
  • Completes operational checks, and troubleshoots, transports, and conducts routine field repairs for equipment, such as mowers and renovation equipment.
  • Performs construction, restoration, and repair of park pathways, trails, and trail-related structures, such as bridges, retaining walls, stairs, fencing, pavers, tiles, and asphalt.
  • Paints facilities, including materials selection and mixing, surface preparation, and application.
  • Repairs existing playground infrastructure and installs replacement playground parts.
  • Communicates with others encountered in the course of work, including members of the public, City staff, and event sponsors and participants.
  • Maintains computerized and manual records related to services and duties performed and equipment used; interprets information, adjusts maintenance schedules, completes follow-up on required maintenance and repair, and maintains program documentation.
  • Performs repairs on roofs, ladders, and lifts.
  • Responds during emergencies and works in adverse weather conditions.
  • Performs grounds maintenance as assigned.
  • May train staff and direct and monitor the work of staff on specific projects.
  • Performs related duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.
