Description:

Position Title: Logistics Worker - Asylum Claimant Response (ACR)
Organization Structure: Reports to Program Coordinator
Job Classification: Logistics
Job Status: Month-to-Month Contract (3 month minimum anticipated with possible month-to-month extension)
Location: Peel Region
Number of Positions: 4 Part-time
Wage: $27.47/hour for 16 hours/week (weekends only)
Shifts are 10 am - 6 pm or 11 am - 7 pm

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree or diploma in Community or Social Work, Counselling, or Education and two years of experience working with immigrant communities or a combination of experience and education that fulfils the requirements
  • Knowledge of settlement and housing-related services and resources in GTA
  • Familiarity with issues facing newcomers in Canadian urban setting
  • Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, conflict resolution, negotiation, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license is required, with access to a vehicle and a clean driving record
  • Preference will be given to those who speak French, Spanish, Portuguese, Amharic, Swahili, Urdu, Turkish, Dhari, Pashtu, or Farsi
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Computer proficiency for regular data entry, communication, and presentation with colleagues and partner agencies

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct all intake, discharge, and case plan/case notes as appropriate in Region of Peels’ Housing Technology System (HTI)
  • Provide client orientation inclusive of tour of hotel and facilities, resident handbook-rights and responsibilities, discharge planning, review intake information for HTI, and signing consents
  • Work with clients to determine their immediate needs/concerns as part of the intake process, this is to include: health, food retention, food allergies, harm reduction needs, safety considerations, immigration pathway, and income source
  • Notify the hotel front desk after a client is discharged or transitions from the Overflow Facility to an Asylum Claimant Emergency Shelter
  • Co-ordinate and liaise with the Regions’ staff, other Emergency Shelter Vendor, Newcomer Settlement Partner’s (NSPs), Income and Social Supports (Regional Ontario Works), staff (and other supports as needed/identified) to support the client in the with intakes, discharge, IRCC transfers, Housing Starts, and transition to Asylum Claimant Emergency Shelter processes upon opening
  • Obtain a room list from the front desk at the beginning of each shift; use the list to verify accuracy
  • Keep a record of the room number, check-in date, and check-out date of each client
  • Must forward the Occupancy Report with aggregate numbers to designated Region’s staff daily by the established deadline
  • Support clients in the process of applying online to be connected to a Region of Peel Housing Support Worker and provide resources and information to assist in preparing the documentation required from the Housing Support Worker within 14 days of the admission date
  • Respond to general inquiries to support clients in their housing search
  • Train on the use of everyday appliances and amenities
  • Distribute hygiene items and prepare purchase orders when required
  • Report any dietary restrictions
  • Distribute food to clients in hotel designated area
  • If a client is not present, the food item must be kept in the staff’s station adhering to food handling and storage requirements-pending distribution to clients that require it in future
  • Must conduct at least two (2) room checks during the shift. One (1) must be conducted at the beginning of each shift, and one (1) must be conducted at the end of each shift.
  • Inform the Program Coordinator in case:
  • There has been a damage to Overflow Facility property while a client has been occupying a room
  • There has been an incident between facility staff and a client
  • A client has violated Overflow Facility policy
  • A unit that the client is residing in is in a poor state and would require extensive cleaning
  • If a client has been issued a letter of discharge
  • If police have been contacted by Overflow Facility staff
  • Conduct thorough room inspections on a bi-weekly basis and complete a room inspection list
  • Provide information and referrals to external programs and services to meet the needs of each client/family
  • Conduct surveys to collect feedback and determine appropriate subject areas for workshops topics
  • Effectively track activities and provide accurate reporting to Program Coordinator
  • Achieve targets set by Program Coordinator
  • Actively participate in professional development initiatives
  • Perform other duties assigned
