Description:

DESCRIPTION

This position in the protective services program is responsible for maintaining fleet readiness, scheduling and ensuring preventative maintenance, managing vendor work-orders and repairs, parts order placement and follow up, purchasing of capital equipment. Creating fleet and protective equipment specifications as needed. In addition to fleet and equipment maintenance, this position will be responsible for maintenance of all fixed, mobile and class-A burning props at the fire training center.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to drive vehicles to test drive for diagnosis after repairs or to deliver/pick-up equipment
  • Knowledge of specialized equipment, practices, and tools required for assigned program vehicles and equipment maintenance
  • Ability to think critically by applying problem solving practices
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills - oral, written, technical and non-technical information, and listening
  • Strong customer service skills, working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team and/or with minimal supervision
  • Basic level of proficiency with computer software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations and/or publishing
  • Preferred: Knowledge of proprietary maintenance requirements from specific vendors and/or manufacturers (Pierce, Globe, Road Rescue, etc)

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS – LEVEL I:

  • Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Associate’s degree in a related field is preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ work experience of automotive or diesel repair diagnosis and repair; Proven experience in equipment maintenance, preferably in law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, military, or similar field

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair various program equipment and vehicles, including communication devices, emergency vehicles, equipment, and protective gear and to ensure that they are in safe and operational condition
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues, making necessary repairs or arranging for external repairs when required and authorized by the Associate Dean
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment and vehicle inventory, including serial numbers, maintenance history, and replacement schedules. Maintain records of activities, repairs, and inspections, including generating reports on equipment status, maintenance schedules. Assist the Associate Dean with developing the annual equipment maintenance budget.
  • Coordinate the procurement of replacement parts, supplies, and equipment in collaboration with the Associate Dean
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety protocols and procedures and provide necessary training
  • Work with instructors and program staff to understand equipment needs for training purposes. Provide support during practical exercises and simulations as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain a clean and safe shop and work area
  • Maintain required certifications and keep current on emerging trends
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required; May assist with program recruitment efforts, such as semi-annual Open Houses events
  • Other duties as assigned
