Description:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma and at least some university or college education;
  • Experience working within a University, preferably within a student-facing environment, will be considered an asset;
  • 1-2 years’ experience working within a university setting or in a retail/not-for-profit setting would be an asset;
  • Must be able to operate under general direction and with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to prioritize, to take initiative and work effectively as part of a team;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Strong writing capabilities, attention to detail;
  • Knowledge of sales strategies an asset;
  • Computer skills using various software including but not limited to, Google documents/folders, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Groupwise, Datatel and Intranet;
  • Tact, good judgment and leadership;
  • Comfortable interacting with senior leaders in both public and private enterprise;
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Ability to adapt to and manage changing deadlines, tight timelines and a diverse environment with accuracy and finesse;
  • High degree of integrity, empathy and confidentiality;
  • Motivated with excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills;
  • Able to work independently and take initiative, as well as perform effectively as a member of a team;
  • Excellent competency with various office software and their application; and
  • English and French competence would be preferred.
    The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Students, the part-time Free-Store Coordinator will lead the organization, launch, and operation of the new Free Store on campus. The Free Store collects donations of quality, clean used clothing and small house-hold items and makes them available to members of the Laurentian Community for free through a newly established Free Store location in the Parker Building. The coordinator will also take appropriate steps over the course of the term of the position to ensure that the Free Store is sustainable in the future and will prepare and submit a proposal to the AVP at the end of the Term. This position requires strong interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.

  • Organize and train volunteers (from the student associations, the peer programs, etc.) to staff the Free Store;
  • Provide administrative support to the Free Store Committee;
  • Sort through donations and put on display;
  • Keep track of inventory (what is needed by the clientele);
  • Work with the Free Store Committee to continue to prepare the space for the Store (this includes acquiring shelving, racks, etc.);
  • Supervise the operation of the Free Store through the academic year (including recruiting and scheduling volunteers);
  • Ensure general maintenance of space and health and safety protocols are adhered to;
  • Create operational guidelines for the Free Store;
  • Work with the Free Store Committee to create experiential education/internship placements with the Free Store Project for students in our Indigenous Social Work, Social Work and related programs;
  • Prepare applications for Work Study positions for the Winter Term, the Summer 2025 Term and the Fall 2025 Term;
  • Create partnerships with internal and external organizations as appropriate for the successful operation of the Free Store;
  • Work with the Committee to develop and implement communications, public awareness and donation-seeking campaigns for the Project;
  • Research, write and submit Proposals for the sustained operation of the Free Store into the future;
  • Prepare and submit the proposal by the end of the term of this position; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned
