Description:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate’s degree from a recognized technical school with a major in mechanical or electrical technology or maintenance. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Five years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of the mechanical and electrical equipment used in buildings, with at least two years’ supervisory experience. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
License/Certification: Must possess a valid driver’s license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of the Corrections Academy and continuing Certification as correctional line personnel as established by the certifying authority.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide security, supervision and training for inmate workers to complete the required tasks in a proficient manner with security being the priority.
  • Supervise, schedule, train and assist subordinate staff ensuring continuous maintenance and repairs of equipment.
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain HVAC systems and related equipment for Department of Corrections facilities.
  • Maintain and utilize knowledge of large industrial chillers and cooling towers which includes sequence of operation, test, chemically treat, clean and maintain.
  • Prevent costly down time and repairs by diagnosing and troubleshooting HVAC systems and controls; electrical, pneumatic, electronics, sensors, transmitters and relay failures.
  • Respond to emergencies by using good judgment and assuring that the work is completed safely and meets federal, state and local codes and recommended ACA standards.
  • Order materials and supplies and maintain inventory of needed parts to prevent costly down time of equipment, and provide job costs for budgetary information.
  • Calibrate and adjust hydraulic, pneumatic, electric & electronic controls & motors to ensure efficient operations and comfortable environment.

· Maintain records, logs on HVAC equipment and write or procure specifications for competitive bidding by vendors on large HVAC alterations and major repairs.
